Dossier: Tackling the COVID-19 Pandemic and the UFG (Universidade Federal de Goiás - Federal University of Goiás) Division of Community and Cultural Affairs

Organizers: Daniela da Costa Britto Pereira Lima, Jéssica Traguetto and Lucilene Maria de Sousa.

Abstract: At the end of 2019, a new Coronavirus agent was identified, after cases registered in China leading to the disease COVID-19, which has been designated as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Since then, several countries have struggled to deal with the disease. Among the many measures taken by the countries aiming at reducing the transmission and spread of the virus, the suspension of all physical classes and programs delivered by the educational institutions at all levels is highlighted.

Amid this reality, most Brazilian Public Universities adopted this measure but continued to develop several activities and actions related to the community and its necessities. Among them, the UFG Division of Community and Cultural Affairs started to monitor the pandemic and its outcomes, as well as to contribute to the community’s needs by the development of a variety of actions at the university institutes.

Considering the importance of the actions supported by the Divisions of Community and Cultural Affairs in the Brazilian universities and universities around the world to face the COVID-19 pandemic, this dossier is open to the submission of  academic articles, reports and reviews  that discuss this theme and relate it to the community and culture topics in any country around the world.
